Planning that is articulated, implemented and then evaluated
As program plans are being implemented, how do you know that that the programs in which you are involved are working and meeting our mission? Think at the macro level in particular here given that there will be future reflections on curriculum in another standard. (See New Day Dawning vision points below)
Examples - New Day Dawning influence in programs which you/we are engaged - and taking stock of them periodically; May retreat insights and applications. Please remember to link or attach those "mission -> informing program -> examined in evaulation" examples.
Here are two examples from Beth:
1. We are moving (have moved) from solely preparing leaders who emanate from Dubuque to preparing leaders in diverse locations:
- Our students studying primarily from a distance/in context are embedded all over the country (link to Chris' map; unique status among PCUSA seminaries doing this; link to % students studying at a distance)
2. We are preparing entrepreurial leaders who are flexibile in the forms of Christian vocation and means of support:
- Spike in growth in students in our certificate/CEP program and MAM who are bivocational (link to data showing increased enrollment in both; illustrations of bivocational grads)
And an example from Lindsey:
How I know the program is working:
- Anecdotally, nearly all SPM students can utilize their internship experiences to meet ordination requirements of field education effectively.
- Student feedback indicates that combining Starting Missional Communities class with an internship allows intentional connection in field experience.

Our aims for our grads:
- Rooted in Scripture, faith, discernment, prayer
- Cultural and generational fluency
- Leadership development empowering others - reflecting the Kingdom
- Social entrepreneurship - new missional paths and new faith communities
- Connecting/reaching those spiritually and physically hungry
- Desire and ability to earn/raise funding in this call
And the articulation of a different approach to theological education (needed to realize the above):
- Move from one traditional model of "pastor" - to preparing students for multiple and missional models of church
- Perfecting the flipped classroom
- Moving from a traditional residential graduated insulated program to touchpoints with undergrads, young adults
- Moving from leaders which emanate from Dubuque - to preparation of those outside of Dubuque in various places
