I'm quite involved in my local church. Through my work there (and especially my wife's), we've encouraged several students to come to UD. We currently have one seminary student who is part of our church. At our last church, several youth chose to attend UD, especially at the undergrad level.
Our mission makes our commitment to the church clear, and so local church involvement is a natural point of connection for recruitment and admissions.
I also think that Elmer's and my involvement with surrounding United Methodist annual conferences plays a key role in recruitment. Last May, for example, I showed up for the ordination service of the Iowa Annual Conference where several UDTS alumni were ordained or commissioned. Attending such an event signals our commitment to the church, which again dovetails nicely with our mission.
