Attendance tracking is a flexible feature that can be used to track physical attendance in class or syllabus defined "attendance" for online learning. 

Adding Attendance Module to Course Page

  • Turn course page editing on by switching the edit toggle to green.

  • In the section you would like to add an attendance module, click the add resource button at the bottom of the section. 

  • In the activity chooser, select Attendance

  • In the Attendance editing screen, you may name your attendance module, and assign Attendance a grade, if you would like attendance graded. 

  • After adjusting settings, at the bottom of the editing screen, click Save and Display

  • On the Attendance display screen, select Add Session 

  • In the Add Session screen, select the date and time of the first class session for in-person classes or the first date as online course criteria require

  • To create recurring sessions for each class day or week or online attendance criteria, click the Repeat the Session Above as Follows checkbox, then enter the recurrence criteria

  • Adjust any other settings you may desire, then click Add

  • Sessions will display in the Attendance module, and are individually editable or deletable using the icons on the right

  • To record attendance in the Attendance module, locate the session you wish to record, and click the triangle located to the right of the session 
  • The pre-set options for recording attendance display with the class list

  • PR=Present (worth 2 grade units)
    AT=Absent, teacher excused (worth 1 grade unit)
    AE=Absent, excused (worth 1 grade unit)
    PL=Present, late or left early (worth 1 grade unit)
    AU=Absent, unexcused (worth 0 grade units)
  • If Attendance is attached to a grade in the gradebook, only recorded attendance sessions will be graded. The grade will calculate always to the total number of points assigned to the whole gradebook. 
    Example: Attendance equals 100 points for the class. If one session is recorded and the student is present, the student will receive 100 points. If they are absent, unexcused in the next session, the student's attendance grade will drop to 50 points. If they are present the third class, the attendance grade will be 66 points.
