Adding Your Picture to Your Profile
A profile picture allows students to easily see who is posting in forums and providing feedback in other places around Moodle. Profile pictures make Moodle feel more personable.
Adding a Profile Picture
- After logging into Moodle, look for your initials in the top right corner of any Moodle page you may be on.
- Click your initials, and select Profile from the dropdown menu
- On the Profile page you will see information about you including courses you are enrolled in.
- In the User Details section, click Edit Profile
- In the User Photo section, upload a photo of yourself. This can be done done of two ways:
- From your computer, locate a photo, and drag it into the field with the arrow in a circle. It will be uploaded immediately.
- Alternatively, click the document icon just above the drag and drop field
- Click Upload a File from the left options on the file picker, then click Choose File
- Locate your photo file by navigating to its location in the next window, select it, then hit Upload this File.
- At the bottom of the editing profile screen, click Update Profile
Recommendations for Profile Pictures
- Using a professional headshot is best practice for faculty, facilitators, and instructors. Students more often select candid photos for their profiles.
- If you choose a candid photo, choose one that is a close up picture of just you with no obstruction to your face, like sunglasses or a hat. Far away or full body style pictures do not help students see you, as profile pictures are only displayed very small throughout Moodle.
- Make sure that your clothing is appropriate and non-offensive for a diverse seminary student body. This is part of our hospitality efforts in digital classroom spaces.
- Once uploaded, view the photo to ensure that your face shows up in the circular profile image. Rectangle and square images are auto-cropped. If your face is cut off, consider editing your original photo by cropping, then re-upload.
- Know that there are other places throughout Moodle where an instructor might place personal or candid photos to make the learning environment feel personable for students. An "About the Instructor" page is a great place to indicate your hobbies and interests and share information about your family, pets, and more.
