Resurrection and the Christian Life

Dr. Lyle D. Vander Broek, Professor of New Testament
Six week course

This course will explore the biblical and theological foundations for both Christ’s resurrection and believers’ resurrection, especially as they relate to our preaching of resurrection during the Easter season.  Participants will study key biblical texts and read appropriate parts of N.T. Wright’s book The Resurrection of the Son of God.  Central issues will include 1) the meaning of resurrection in O.T. and Jewish apocalyptic texts, 2) the empty tomb and Christ’s resurrection according to the Gospels, 3) the necessity and desirability of believers’ resurrection, and 4) how an understanding of believers’ resurrection affects the Christian life in the present. The Easter Pauline and Gospel lectionary readings (1 Corinthians 15:19-26 and John 20:1-18) will be incorporated into the course.
