Formation Syllabi & Specific Weeks - Resiliency
I discuss resilience, trauma-informed practices, and emotional maturity specifically in
- IN721 Disciple Formation 3: Addition and Grace (via Aundi Kolber, Try Softer; Gerald May, Addiction & Grace);
- IN722 Disciple Formation 4: Immersed in the Story (via chapters from Patricia Jennings, The Trauma-Sensitive Classroom: Building Resilience with Compassionate Teaching and Thomas M. Skovholt, Michelle Trotter-Mathison, The Resilient Practitioner: Burnout and Compassion Fatigue Prevention and Self-Care Strategies for the Helping Profession). They take the Skovholt indicator as part of that.
- I also include The Resilient Practitioner, Addiction & Grace, and Try Softer in first semester Doctor of Ministry reading list. They also take the Skolvolt indicator.
Since the work is not entirely evident in the syllabus (all the practices are listed in Moodle each week), I’ve also included the Moodle weeks pertaining to these readings.
They have practices on margin, technology usage, sleep hygiene, etc. in the first year, but it is woven through-out the semesters and not tied to a particular reading. God’s Redemptive Mission students read Kolber for a book summary only, so they are at least familiar with the concepts going into their first year.
