    The purpose of this page is to provide cooperating and supervising teachers with the resources and dates needed to meet the reporting requirements of student teaching.

  • Supervising Teachers

    • Bi-weekly formal Observations with feedback--using common observation form--this is a MINIMUM requirement 
    • Progress reporting (4x throughout semester)--can be done alone or in collaboration with cooperating teacher 
    • Observation log 
    • Collaboration with cooperating teacher on final grade
    • Completion of ONLINE final evaluation document--can be done alone or in collaboration with cooperating teacher 

    Cooperating Teachers

    • Ongoing verbal/written feedback for student teacher--journals/notebooks are a great way to accomplish this
    • Progress reporting (4x throughout semester)--can be done alone or in collaboration with supervising teacher 
    • Collaboration with supervising teacher on final grade
    • Completion of ONLINE final evaluation document--can be done alone or in collaboration with supervising teacher 

    Other (Cooperating and Supervising Teachers)

    • Ongoing mentoring and support of student teacher
    • Communication with student teaching supervisor
    • Feedback on lesson plans
    • Timely completion of reporting

    If the supervising teacher is not fully qualified by level or content area (per each 8-weeks of a placement):

    • Supervising teacher completes four formal observations
    • Cooperating teacher completes two formal observations
    • Collaborative progress reporting 
    • Collaborative final grade and final formal (online) evaluation
    • Other duties aligned in sections relevant sections above

  • Eight Week Placements

    • August 15-October 11 (35 Student Contact Days)
    • October 14--December 11 (38 Student Contact Days)

    Sixteen Week Placement

    • August 15-December 11

    Pinning:

    • December 11 (4-5:30)
    • Black Box Theater (Heritage Center)

    Graduation

    • December 12

    • This form is REQUIRED for all formal observations (completed every 2 weeks by the supervising teacher). Please complete electronically and return to Dr. Haverland via email. 

    • This running form should be completed for each visit between the supervising teacher and student teacher and emailed back to Dr. Haverland at the end of each placement.

    • This form is completed by the supervising and cooperating teachers either separately or collaboratively (2 times for each 8 week placement or 4 times for each 16 week placement) and returned to Dr. Haverland via email.

    • Please use this link to complete the final evaluation of the student teacher for each placement. This should be completed by both the cooperating and supervising teacher at the end of each placement. That said, it can be done collaboratively. This is a substantial form to evaluate progress on character dispositions and InTASC standards, and it does not allow you to come back to complete it. 

      To complete this evaluation, you will need the following information:

    • This rubric will help you more fairly assess student performance and assign a final grade for student teaching. 

    • This form must be completed by your student teacher following their mock evaluation and returned to me. It is merely for your information.

    • This form can be used by you, your administrator, or your designee to evaluate student progress according to the Iowa Teaching Standards. This form does not need to be returned to me. 

    • This form must be completed by your student teacher and provided to the cooperating teacher, supervising teacher, and student teaching coordinator for any absence. Student teachers DO NOT have built-in days off for illness or any other personal business. If they exceed two absences, their placement may need to be extended. 

    • First Day of School on August 22
    • Initial meeting between cooperating and supervising teachers meet with student teacher to plan placement.
    • Formal observation 1 with meeting and feedback

    • Formal observation 2 with meeting and feedback
    • Progress Report One 

    • Formal observation 3 with meeting and feedback.

    • Each year, we recognize an outstanding student teacher as Student Teacher of the Year.
    • There is no set criteria, just your nomination detailing what sets your student teacher above others. 
    • You DO NOT need to nominate as nominations nor finalists are publicly shared.
    • This award is open to student teachers in both fall and spring semesters and the award is given during our spring Honors' Convocation.
